By the time these recordings were made, Django had toured the US and made his last recordings with the original Hot Club de France. There was to be one last set of sessions with Stephane Grappelli - which forms the bulk of the first three albums of this collection. The sessions arose from an engagement at a Roman club - the Rupe Tarpea. Reinhardt and Grappelli took it when no other work was on offer. The pair had to face two realities. First, their wartime separation had led to new directions and collaborations. Second, their dwindling audiences wanted to hear their hits - making any evolution... [Read More]
This box collects most of the broadcast and concert recordings Django Reinhardt made in his last eight years, except the Rome sessions, available on JSP919. Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt starred with violinist Stéphane Grappelli in the Quintet of the Hot Club of France during the 1930s and 40s, as the pair’s dazzling techniques graced an irresistibly joyful repertoire to create an enduring legacy which transcended jazz.
Largely considered the most influential guitarist of the 20th century, Django Reinhardt invented a genre of Gypsy jazz that has increasingly gained popularity today, over fifty years since his untimely passing in 1953. Originally recorded in 1947, this greatest hits collection focuses almost entirely on the famed Gypsy Jazz guitarist's original compositions and features some of Django's first experiments with amplified guitar. All selections newly remastered.

Created in their Parisian studios, where the electro-pioneers fuse hedonistic house and old school jazz to glorious effect, Robot evokes the spirit of a modernistic Quintette du Hot Club de France. The musical sound bed for the vocally explosive, burlesque blazoning Zoe Colotis is created by the band s three founder members Hughes Paven (violin), Charles Delaporte(upright bass) and Arnaud Vial (guitar), plus Camille Chapelière (clarinet) & Antoine Toustou (trombone and electronics) over the beats provided by Pa...
