Silver Finalist in the 2011 NASFT sofiTM Awards Compe on, for Outstanding Baked Goods Product. Also known as Liege Waffle, this rich and sweet treat dates back to the 18th century. Pearl Sugar is unique to the area surrounding the city of Liege, Belgium. These pearl shaped crystals keep their crunch even after baking- providing pleasing pockets of crunchy sweetness. Whether topped with a scoop of ice cream or fresh fruit, slightly warmed from the oven or straight from the package, we hope you'll enjoy this classic Belgian delight.
Our 100% authentic Belgian pearl sugar is imported from the town of Tienen in Belgium. Tienen is the center of sugar production in Belgium, located in the province of Flemish Brabant, in Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium. The pearl sugar is made from locally grown beet sugar. Belgian pearl sugar is used to make the popular Liege-style Belgian waffles. Added to dough, this sugar caramelizes throughout the waffle due to its high melting point, creating crunchy pockets of sweetness when baked. This effect is the secret that gives Liege waffles its unique flavor and essence.
