Curtis was the R&B sax player in the late '50s & early '60s. They'd cancel sessions if they couldn't get him. He made some highly regarded solo recordings too, and the rarest have always been the Capitol sides from the early '60s. There were some big hits, and the classics, and they're here of course, together with all the other singles, the four original LPs, and 16 prev. unissued cuts.
Prior to his string of '60s hits on Capitol and Atco, this R&B sax legend cut these greasy, gritty gems for the Enjoy label. His breakthrough smash Soul Twist joins his two-part take on What'd I Say plus Big Dipper; Midnight Blue; Camp Meeting; Hot Potatoes; I Know , and more!
Where soul and sax meet, you've got the immortal King Curtis, and this disc brings you the big hits AND the LP cuts that were too hot for the pop charts. So along with Soul Twist and Soul Serenade you get his versions of Hide Away; One Mint Julep; Peter Gunn; Watermelon Man; Misty; Good News , and more!
